The content of ammonium ions is an important indicator for assessing whether water quality is polluted. Ammonium ions exist in water as free ammonia or ammonium salts, and the composition mainly depends on the pH value of the water. This kit uses the indophenol blue colorimetric method, which transforms ammonium ions in water into ammonium salts under high pH conditions for determination. Ammonium ions in water react with phenol and sodium hypochlorite under strong alkaline conditions to form a stable water-soluble dye, indophenol blue, whose absorbance is directly proportional to the content of ammonium ions and has a characteristic absorption peak at 625nm.
