Polysaccharides in natural plants are predominantly present as acidic heteropolysaccharides. Uronic acid, being a sugar derivative, plays a significant role in the structural analysis of polysaccharides derived from natural plants to determine the presence of uronic acid residues. Uronic acid reacts with borate solution upon boiling to undergo hydrolysis, and the resulting products further react with resorcinol to form a pink derivative, which exhibits maximum absorption at 525nm within a certain concentration range.
