Product description
After the sugar in the sample is extracted with hot water, it is dehydrated with sulfuric acid to form furfural or furfural derivatives. The product reacts with phenol to form an orange-yellow substance, which has the maximum absorption at 480nm. Within a certain range, its absorbance is directly proportional to the sugar concentration, and the total sugar content in the sample is quantitatively calculated using a standard curve.
Additional Materials and Equipments Required
Visible spectrophotometer, 1mL glass cuvette (light path 1cm), water bath/metal bath, pipette, concentrated sulfuric acid (not allowed for courier), mortar and pestle.
