Total flavonoids, also known as flavonoid compounds, are an important class of secondary metabolites in plants with strong antioxidant activity. They can capture reactive oxygen free radicals and reduce oxidative damage, affecting color and flavor in fruits, and playing an important role in plant stress resistance and disease resistance. This kit uses the NaNO2-Al(NO3)3-NaOH color development method to determine the total flavonoid content. In an alkaline nitrite solution, flavonoid compounds form a red complex with aluminum ions that has a characteristic absorption peak at 510nm. By measuring the absorbance of the reaction product at 510nm, the total flavonoid content in the sample can be calculated.
