Spectrophotometry

Product description
Ureases in soil mainly come from microorganisms and plants. They can only hydrolyze urea in soil, with the final products being ammonia and carbonate. Soil urease activity is positively correlated with soil microbial numbers, organic matter content, total nitrogen, and available nitrogen content. Soil urease activity is commonly used to characterize the nitrogen status of soil. This kit uses the indigo blue colorimetric method: urease hydrolyzes urea to produce NH3-N, which reacts with hypochlorite and phenol in a strong alkaline medium to form the water-soluble dye indigo blue. The color depth is directly proportional to the NH3-N content in the solution, thereby determining the activity of soil urease.
Additional Materials and Equipments Required
Visible spectrophotometer (wavelength setting: 578nm), 1mL glass cuvettes (optical path 1cm), centrifuge, water bath, pipettes, toluene.
