Product description
Proanthocyanidins (PC) are a class of flavonoid compounds widely found in the fruits, seeds, flowers, and skins of plants, known for their strong antioxidant properties and free radical scavenging abilities. The simplest proanthocyanidins are catechins, or epicatechins, or dimers formed by catechins and epicatechins. This kit provides a more sensitive detection method: the vanillin-sulfuric acid method; under acidic conditions provided by sulfuric acid, the resorcinol and phloroglucinol on the A-ring of plant proanthocyanidins undergo condensation reactions with vanillin, producing colored compounds with a characteristic absorption peak at 500nm. The content of proanthocyanidins can be calculated by measuring the absorbance at 500nm.
