Phosphoglucomutase (PGM) plays a key role in carbohydrate metabolism and is widely present in all living organisms. PGM can interconvert glucose-1-phosphate (G1P) and glucose-6-phosphate (G6P). When glycogen is degraded, PGM converts G1P to G6P, which then enters the glycolytic pathway to produce ATP or the pentose phosphate pathway to produce ribose and NADPH. Conversely, when the cell needs energy, PGM converts G6P to G1P, which then produces glycogen. A deficiency in PGM can lead to diseases related to glucose storage. This kit provides a simple, sensitive, and rapid determination method: PGM converts glucose-1-phosphate to glucose-6-phosphate; glucose-6-phosphate is oxidized by glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase to form NADPH, which then reacts with a specific color reagent to form a colored substance. By detecting the increase in the colored substance at 450nm, the PGM enzyme activity can be calculated.
