Product description
Oxalic acid is a dicarboxylic acid widely present in plants. As an antagonist of mineral elements, long-term consumption of vegetables high in oxalic acid can lead to diseases such as arthritis, hypocalcemia, and kidney stones. Oxalic acid can be used as a complexing agent, bleaching agent, precipitant, and reducing agent, and has a wide range of applications in the pharmaceutical, printing, and plastics industries. Fe3+ can react with sulfosalicylic acid to form a purple complex under acidic conditions, which has a characteristic absorption peak at 510nm. Oxalic acid and its conjugate base can lighten the color of this purple complex. The absorbance of the Fe3+-sulfosalicylic acid complex decreases with increasing oxalic acid content, and the oxalic acid content can be detected by measuring the change in absorbance.
