Marine invertebrates primarily have four anaerobic metabolic pathways, among which the glucose-opine pathway plays an important role in the early stages of anaerobic metabolism. The unique Opine Dehydrogenases (OpDHs) in invertebrates ensure the smooth progress of this process. Octopine Dehydrogenase (ODH; EC 1.5.1.11) is one of the Opine Dehydrogenases (OpDHs) series enzymes. ODH catalyzes the reaction between pyruvate and the specific substrate arginine to form the corresponding amino acid, while oxidizing NADH. By measuring the decrease in NADH at the characteristic absorption wavelength of 340nm, the activity of ODH can be determined.
