Product description
Nitrite reductase (NiR, EC1.7.2.1) is a class of oxidoreductases that can catalyze the reduction of nitrite, widely present in microorganisms and plants, and is a key enzyme in the natural nitrogen cycle. It can degrade nitrite to NO or NH3, thereby reducing the accumulation of nitrate nitrogen in the environment and decreasing the toxicity to organisms caused by nitrite accumulation. Nitrite reductase can reduce NO2- to NO, reducing the amount of NO2- involved in the quantitative formation of (pink) red azo compounds with p-aminobenzene sulfonic acid and α-naphthylamine. The color intensity, i.e., the change in absorbance at 540nm, can reflect the activity of nitrite reductase.
Additional Materials and Equipments Required
Visible spectrophotometer, 1mL glass cuvettes (optical path 1cm), pipettes, balance, mortar and pestle, water bath, low-temperature centrifuge.
