Mitochondrial respiratory chain Complex V, commonly known as ATP synthase, F-type ATPase, and F1F0ATPase, is the ultimate reaction of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation. Complex V's main function is to produce the energy ATP required by most cells and can also hydrolyze ATP in the reverse process. Abnormalities in this enzyme in animals can lead to heart and neurological diseases. Using the function of mitochondrial respiratory chain Complex V to hydrolyze ATP to produce ADP and Pi, the enzyme activity of mitochondrial Complex V can be determined by measuring the increase rate of Pi.
