Glycolate oxidase (GO, EC 1.3.3.1) is a key enzyme in the photorespiration process of plants, catalyzing the oxidation of glycolate to glyoxylate, which is the substrate of plant photorespiration. Glycolate oxidase is closely related to plant photorespiration, growth and development, mineral nutrition, and disease susceptibility. Glycolate oxidase catalyzes the oxidation of glycolate to glyoxylate, which reacts with phenylhydrazine to form glyoxylate phenylhydrazone. Glyoxylate phenylhydrazone has a maximum absorption peak at 324nm, and by measuring the increase of glyoxylate phenylhydrazone, the enzyme activity of glycolate oxidase can be determined.
