Product description
Glutamate decarboxylase (GAD, EC 4.1.1.15) is a pyridoxal-dependent decarboxylase that specifically catalyzes the decarboxylation of L-glutamate to form γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and CO2. GAD is widely distributed in animals, plants, and microorganisms: in mammals, GAD-catalyzed GABA is an important inhibitory neurotransmitter; in plants, the activity of GAD can indicate seed germination ability and emergence rate, etc. This assay kit uses the colorimetric method with phenol and sodium hypochlorite to measure the GABA produced by glutamate decarboxylase (GAD), resulting in the formation of a blue substance that has significant light absorption at 645nm. The color intensity is directly proportional to the content of GABA, thereby determining the activity level of GAD.
