Product description
Glucokinase (GK, EC 2.7.1.2) is a member of the hexokinase family, primarily found in mature liver cells and pancreatic islet cells. Under normal physiological conditions, the main function of GK is to monitor blood glucose levels. GK phosphorylates glucose to produce glucose-6-phosphate, which further reacts with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase and NADP+. By measuring the increase in NADPH absorption at 340 nm, the enzyme activity can be calculated.
Additional Materials and Equipments Required
Microplate reader, 96-well plate, temperature-controlled water bath, desktop centrifuge, pipette, mortar and pestle, ice, and distilled water.
