γ-Aminobutyrate transaminase (GABA-T, EC 2.6.1.96) is one of the key enzymes in the GABA shunt, catalyzing the degradation and transformation of GABA. This assay kit utilizes γ-aminobutyrate transaminase (GABA-T) to catalyze the reaction between pyruvate and GABA to produce succinate semialdehyde and alanine, and by detecting the decrease of GABA, the enzyme activity of GABA-T can be determined. Reaction equation: 4-aminobutanoate + pyruvate = succinate semialdehyde + L-alanine
