Product description
Citrate synthase (CS, EC 2.3.3.1) is found in almost all living organisms and is a key rate-limiting enzyme and a marker enzyme for metabolic changes in various metabolic pathways within the cell. It is the first rate-limiting enzyme in the TCA cycle that occurs in the mitochondria and is also related to seed germination and stress resistance. CS catalyzes the reaction of acetyl CoA and oxaloacetate to produce citryl CoA, which is further hydrolyzed to citrate; further reacts with the color developer to form a yellow substance, which has a characteristic absorption peak at 412nm, from which the activity of CS can be determined.
