Carboxyl esterase (CarE, EC 3.1.1.1) is a polymorphic protein widely distributed in the cytoplasm, mitochondria, and endoplasmic reticulum of cells, mainly catalyzing the hydrolysis of esters, sulfate esters, and amides, and participating in the detoxification process of organisms, known as a clearance agent in organisms. Carboxyl esterase catalyzes the hydrolysis of acetone-1-naphthol to form naphthol, which further reacts with aFast Blue color reagent to form a colored substance. By detecting the increase rate of the colored substance at 450 nm, the activity of carboxyl esterase (CarE) can be determined.
