Product description
6-Phosphogluconate synthase (GlmS, EC 2.6.1.16), also known as 6-phosphofructo glutamine amidotransferase (GFAT), is the enzyme that catalyzes the first step and is the rate-limiting enzyme in the amino sugar synthetic metabolic pathway. The final product of this pathway, uridine diphosphate N-acetylglucosamine, is a precursor of glycoproteins in living organisms and a monomer for the synthesis of chitin, a major component of the cell walls of some fungi. GlmS catalyzes the synthesis of 6-phosphogluconate and glutamate from glutamine and 6-phosphofructose. This kit calculates the enzyme activity by detecting the rate of glutamate production. The reaction equation is: L-glutamine + D-fructose 6-phosphate = L-glutamate + D-glucosamine 6-phosphate.
